All The Lights We Cannot See, a popular best selling book published on May 6 2014, is a historical fiction novel that gained admiration from readers and critics alike by exploring the depressing and traumatic lifestyle one would experience if found in a situation similar to the one our protagonists find themselves in, within the book. This novel is set in a gloomy World War 2 scene, and is played out with points of view from an innocent blind girl who is undeserving of all the hardships she suffers and from the view of a German orphan dead set on joining the German ranks and escaping the fate of his dead father only to realise what he has chosen may be worse than a life close to the ones he loves. This novel draws inspiration from other historical fictions, namely The Book Thief due to their similar settings and backstory. Through the eyes of our protagonist(s) the novel unfolds starting from the peaceful and happier realities each protagonist will later long for, and then delves into the bleak, sad and tortured existence children would experience if they lived during this time of great struggle.
